irritable bowel syndrome

Have you been diagnosed as having Irritable Bowel Syndrome and at a loss of where to get help?

Would you like to manage your symptoms and gain control over your life?

Well you can!

At Turning Point Therapy we can help those living with Irritable Bowel Syndrome to gain control and manage this debilitating condition effectively.

Those suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome can become clearly distressed by the myriad of symptoms that they have to contend with on a daily basis. The effects of living a stressful life can cause the symptoms that are collectively known as irritable bowel syndrome.

The symptoms are quite varied from person to person, the most common being;

Even now, following years of research, no one knows exactly how irritable bowel syndrome develops, or what triggers its development in children or in adults. Just as each person is different IBS presents itself differently in each individual, making it very difficult to diagnose.

Chronic life stressors can take its toll on any individual, but it’s how well we cope during those periods of stress that holds the key with IBS. However, irritable bowel syndrome is a common disease that affects many. The impact can be devastating and in severe cases the illness can take over the sufferer’s whole life and affect their family dynamic indefinitely.

It appears through recent research that a particular part of the brain holds the key in IBS; the mid-cingulate, part of the brain cortex. Dr. Phil Hariram states that;

‘The effects of the brain function on the gut has been well documented but recent development in Brain Scans and Monitors have demonstrated that the Mid-Cingulate part of the brain Cortex is stimulated during emotional distress. Under observation, when this part of the brain is in overdrive or being over stimulated during stress, gastro-intestinal effects develop. Patients develop spasms of abdominal pain and/or diarrhoea. This explains why stress is an important trigger of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and by reducing stress you are helping to control your Irritable Bowel Syndrome'. Dr. Phil Hariram (2007).

For some, trying to control the effects of IBS proves very difficult, especially if leaving the home is a problem. However, simple relaxation techniques can prove effective and help to gain control over the numerous problems that irritable bowel syndrome can generate. By learning to relax the mind the mid-cingulate part of the brain’s cortex can be controlled, therefore helping to alleviate stress and the effects stress has on the gut.

Unfortunately, there is no known cure for IBS, only relief from various quarters. Yet the most beneficial and successful areas in treating this condition is Hypnotherapy and Stress Management. It is here with Turning Point Therapy that the IBS sufferer can learn how to relax and take control over one’s life and decrease the effects of life’s stressors; therefore, decreasing the effects of such a debilitating illness as irritable bowel syndrome.
